Mike Hurdelbrink

Mike Hurdelbrink served as the Vice President of Double R Productions for over twenty years. Hurdelbrink was the founder and president of AVS, started in 1984, and AVS Post, which opened in 1990. He was one of the founders of Waveworks, a postproduction house in Washington, DC.

Hurdelbrink began his broadcast career as an engineer and then a producer/director for WEEK-TV in Peoria, Illinois. He then moved on to WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio where he served as producer and director for a full slate of programming including news, documentary, public affairs, musical/variety and professional sports events. The final two years of his six-year stint were spent as the Executive Producer, overseeing hundreds of hours of live and taped programming. While in Ohio he served as the director of Cincinnati Reds baseball in the days of the Big Red Machine.

Hurdelbrink’s extensive experience in the Washington broadcast market included production management and program development at WUSA-TV and WJLA-TV. He directed numerous public service and commercial spots, annual events for major trade associations and corporations plus a wide variety of entertainment and information programming. Hurdelbrink did considerable political work, including directing for the Democratic News Service during their last convention in LA. In 2000 he traveled with the Bee Gees for concerts in New Zealand and Australia. The Australian concert inaugurated the new Olympic stadium in Sydney. Directing the Bee Gees video support in Miami for New Years showed off Hurdelbrink's directing skills "live" on ABC.

Hurdelbrink received many awards for his producing and directing, including numerous Emmys and Tellys. His award-winning PSAs for the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, working with police chiefs from throughout the U.S., were influential in bringing the Brady Bill before Congress.

Mike Hurdelbrink passed away on April 18, 2008. He leaves a lasting impression on the media industry and will always be remembered by his warmth, his humor and his kindness to many.
