ARLINGTON INDEPENDENT MEDIA AND DOUBLE R PRODUCTIONS HONORED FOR
PROVIDING SERVICE TO WASHINGTON REGION’S CULTURAL COMMUNITY
For Immediate Release
January 18, 2005
Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, DC – Arlington Independent Media, Arlington County’s
public access cable channel, and Double R Productions, a Washington-based
television production company, were honored for their roles in the creation
of The Arts Show and Tell, an innovative new program of the Cultural
Alliance of Greater Washington that allows the region’s arts and cultural
organizations access to the means necessary to produce television segments
about their work. The awards were given at the Cultural Alliance’s
annual Business Volunteers for the Arts Recognition Luncheon on Thursday,
December 8 at the Kennedy Center’s Roof Terrace Restaurant.
The Arts Show and Tell provides participating organizations with
experienced, pro-bono producers, editors, and production staff who work to
create a twelve-minute television segment that showcases the organization's
art. Two arts segments are paired to form a thirty-minute television program. The
Arts Show & Tell airs on Arlington Independent Media (AIM) channel
69 each Tuesday at 7:30 and Thursday at 10pm.
The creation of The Arts Show and Tell would not have been possible
without the commitment and partnership of Rosemary Reed, principal of Double
R Productions, and Lynda Slye, marketing director of Arlington Independent
Media. Both companies made staffing resources available with a combined total
of nineteen staff members who contributed 489 hours over a 14-month period.
"Double R Productions is honored to receive this award," said
Rosemary Reed. "We especially enjoy working with the arts groups and
providing them with the public attention necessary to further their success."
"Since commitment to the arts is at the core of Arlington Independent
Media's mission, we are honored to be acknowledged with the BVA Award," said
Lynda Slye.
To date, The Arts Show and Tell has featured four of the region’s
arts organizations: Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre, Washington Bach Consort,
Jane Franklin Dance, and The Textile Museum. As we move into 2006, The
Arts Show & Tell will be picked up by Fairfax Public Access channel
10. Upcoming programs will feature Wolf Trap Institute’s Baby ARTSPLAY!,
Levine School of Music, the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, and the
seven additional arts organizations and cultural institutions who have submitted
applications for the program.
Business Volunteers for the Arts ®/Washington (BVA) strengthens the
management of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations by placing business
professionals to work as volunteer management consultants with arts managers
and their boards on projects in financial and strategic planning, marketing,
information technology, and more.
The Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington is an organization dedicated
to sustaining and increasing regional leadership, appreciation, support and
resources for arts and culture. We build and nurture a regional network by
enhancing the connection, collaboration, and conversation within the arts
and cultural community and among business and other interest groups. The
Cultural Alliance pursues four institutional strategies in order to progress
its missions: Research, Convene, Advocate, and Serve.
