SISTER BY SISTER, DOUBLE R PRODUCTIONS HELPS DISCOVER CAUSES OF
BREAST CANCER
For Immediate Release
January 18, 2005
Washington, DC
Double R Productions recently announced, "That's a wrap!" in
creating a recruitment video for The Sister Study, titled Sister By Sister:
Discovering The Causes of Breast Cancer. The Sister Study is a ten-year national
study of women whose sisters have had breast cancer. NIH/NIEHS (National
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences through the National Institutes
of Health) is attempting to learn more about the environmental and genetic
causes of breast cancer.
Double R traveled to Durham, North Carolina, interviewing
close to a dozen women and their sisters. Double R's President,
Rosemary Reed, produced the project while videographer, Gonzalo Accame of
Visual Edge TV along with sound recordist, Tom Everly, recorded the interviews
and collected excellent footage for the video.
"Being a breast cancer survivor myself, working on this piece was very rewarding.
I hope we can discover what's really causing breast cancer, not just for
me but for the thousands who are diagnosed each year," said Reed.
Double R's production assistant, Cheryl Ryan, coordinated
the details on the road, while production manager, Josh Shama organized the
scheduling and crew agenda. AVID editor, Michael Gionis, creatively put together
the final piece, with exciting visuals and colorful logos, designed by graphic
artist Tom Schmidt. Double R's interns Nicole Zwick, Colette
Baldwin and Andrea Seeley also assisted with this project.
Women between the ages of 35 and 74, taking part in this study, come from
different generations and from various religious, racial, ethnic, and income
groups. The study is being led by CODA, Inc., a professional service firm
specializing in survey research, epidemiologic research, and evaluation studies.
This breast cancer study is one of the first long-term studies to research
how women's genes and environmental exposures influence the risk of breast
cancer.
Double R Productions is a full service film, television
and media production company in Washington, DC. Projects include commercials,
public service announcements, original programming, video news releases,
